Dr. Chao Danny Vang appointed as External Relations for Student Academic Success and Educational Equity Programs, a unit of 25 specific programs and offices responsible for retention and graduation planning for 30,000 students to close the degree attainment gap. Dr. Vang will also serve as the Executive Coordinator for the Full Circle Project, a student-centered approach to steadily increase the graduation rates of underrepresented Asian American and Pacific Islander.
Dr. Vang brings a myriad of experiences from the K-12 system having served as the Natomas USD Coordinator for IB Programs and as the site lead for WASC. He brings extensive student services experiences having worked for the Career Center, Migrant Student Leadership Institute, and has worked on numerous grant projects for the community and the university. Dr. Vang is also a huge proponent of giving back to the community. For example, he works directly with the community through service on numerous boards and work teams and has partnered with many non-profits in the Sacramento Region. He recently helped secure the ATT Workforce Readiness Grant.
He has been impactful aboard having served as a part of the Sacramento delegation for an international project in China Yuanna Province. Dr. Vang is also the founding President and lifetime member of the Asian Pacific Alumni Chapter and most of all he is one of our very own EOP alum who has excelled beyond measure. He has received extensive training in Leadership Management and in the area of Advocacy. He also successfully secured the “Improving Hmong Americans Youth Health Outcomes Grant, which will culminate in a report that will inform practice with Hmong college students. His dissertation also received honors by AERA for excellence in research. Dr. Vang is clearly a skilled practitioner, grant writer, researcher, and leader and will bring much to the Unit as we work to transform the communities we serve. He continues to teach in the Department of Ethnic Studies and in the Social Science Program.
Dr. Vang received his Bachelor, Teaching Credential, Master and Doctorate in Educational Leadership from Sacramento State.
